Is this another word for the ECU??? Mine just shorted out(as the dealer states) and the car will crank over, but not start. Hmmmmm... The dealership says that the "BCM" is $250 and I'd like to see if I can use the 87 computer I have now. Any input??
Find another Dealer.. I assume this is with your 89.. If so, you don't have a BCM just and ECM.. 90-newer Vettes had a BCM (Also called a CCM, Central Control Module) aling with an ECM (later called a PCM Powertrain Control Module)..
Yes the 87 ECM with your current MEMCAL should work in place if your current ECM

Follow Jeff's advice. Stay away from that dealer. Either they are mixing up terms in a way only a novice would, or they are trying to sell you something you do not need and cannot use on an 89.

If you do need a new ECM, you can get a quality remanufactured GM unit from NAPA for about one-half that price. You can swap the ECM yourself in about 15 minutes. Use the $100+ you saved to buy beer and become a CF lifetime supporting member.

Note that you CANNOT just swap in the 87 computer. You must pull your MEMCAL (chip) from your 89 ECM (computer) and put it in the 87 ECM before placing it in your 89. The 87 chip has entirely different starting enrichment tables than your 89 would use since 85-88 C4s all had a 9th cold start injector which was done away with in 89.
