Oil Filter Leak
A drip that hangs from the bottom. Had a chance to look at it closer this weekend and the oil stream seems to be coming from the area where the filter faces the trans casing. The rest of the filter is dry. There's also a drip at the bottom of the trans dust shield coming from oil on the outside front of the dust shield. I checked the oil temp sender and removed it yesterday, cleaned it and used some Teflon tape on the threads. I have checked the Oil Pressure Sending Unit and its dry along with the distributor base. When I run the motor, Oil Pressure sits at about 53psi during cold idle. I've replaced the Filter twice and checked for gasket stacking. The bypass relief valve/adapter "seemed" ok, but I had not removed it for inspection. I'll check this evening for rear main seal by removing the dust shield. Clutch seems to be gripping just fine so far.
I checked the bolts last night. I took the adapter off the block. No cracks. Spring doesn't appear to be binding. Not sure how much pressure it should take to compress the spring. It was fairly easy. Not a lot of pressure. Bolts appeared to have been torqued.
Should I look into putting in a new adapter or put the old one back in?
Any other suggestions?
Higher rpms may be causing a too high pressure and the oil seeping through the filter gasket. When I removed the pan, I also undid the dust shield from the trans. Rear Main seal seemed to be doing its job. Oil looked fine as did the bottom end. I had some concern I was getting coolant in the oil.
