I finally took the vette out for a spin after ive bought it. Now it hasnt been driven for over a year (or possibly longer) to my knowledge, and things seemed ok! In neutral after a while the rpm climbs to 2k, but in gear its fine, after it was warmed up i gave it a bit of right foot, and as i was coming to a stop afterwards it tried to stall but didnt. The rest of the short drive to the gas station the car drove fine, and as i pulled up i noticed the service engine soon light appeared, to my (very limited) knowledge of vettes, this means the car has a code for me, correct? How do i check the code? Ive read on here of people grounding "x" pin to "y"?
Also i think one of the brakes is dragging slightly, what can i do to sort this out? When driving there is a kind of shake and noise coming from the front right wheel i think, but i cant feel any vibration or anything on the steering?
Sorry for the lengthy post :o I just have alot of question!
Corvettes were made to be driven, hard, not stored is a garage. Sorry but thats how I feel. You have a OBD11. Buy a code reader to find out what is wrong . They are cheap $39.95 at Harbor Freight.
The brakes may be doing that because of condensation in the brake fluid. You should be bleed them once a year.
The vibration could come from tires that havn't been driven for over a year. Put some miles on them and they might round out.(steel belts flatten out).
I know you were looking for an easier fix but thats my .02
Obviously, get your codes read. But, I will tell you that a very common problem in late models that have sat too long is that the heating elements go bad on the 02 sensors, causing intermittent coding. As in the previous post, these cars are designed to be driven- based on what you've told us, I would change ALL fluids (brake, transmission, oil, rear gear, steering and probably even the coolant) and, in about 2 weeks of good hard driving, check all of your seals. Especially transmission main and shaft output. Good luck...
I wouldn't be surprised if its a data communication failure. Just from sitting a while might have gotten invalid data from a sensor that kicked off the SES.
