Recently had a Delteq system installed on my '93 383 LT-1 which has a gen 6 DFI. Delteq and the shop are working together on the problem. The engine starts up immediately and runs well untill it reaches operating temperature. Then it idles ragged and appears to be running on 6 or 7 cylinders. So far we've changed the spark plug wires with no results. Any thoughts or views would be appreciated. Perhaps its not a "Delteq" problem?
Sounds like it could be a marginal connection in a wire somewhere. I've seen this several times at our (albeit marine) shop.
It's possible that one of the wires is broken internally (inside the sheath) or that it terminates improperly within a connector. What happens is that the wire makes a connection while at ambient temps but "breaks" after the temperature rises.
It's a nightmare to chase this type of problem. We've seen it in brand new Mercury Marine wiring harnesses.
The most direct way to test if this condition exists is to let the whole assembly cool down (where you know it will run properly), start it up and then start grabbing specific harnesses/wires and mechanically agitate them (give 'em a good shake/twist) before it heats up to the known failure point. You can try to isolate (at least somewhat) where in the wiring the failure resides. If it is an intermittent break then you really hope it shows up while performing this method.
If that doesn't work then sometimes you just have to start replacing wires or begin your arduous checks of ohm resistance while the assembly is hot (not working). This method sucks monkey *****.
