I put in a hotcam in my 94 LT1 and got a new tune from pcmforless. The idle was supposed to be set to around 800 rpm but its still around 500-550. I emailed Bryan at pcmforless and he said to adjust the set screw on the throttlebody to let it reach 800 rpm.
I thought the idle was set by the IAC, does anyone know what I need to do to make this work right?

You would have to disconnect the IAC and then set the idle speed. I am not sure about the modified RPM that you want, but I believe you have to set it to 400RPM with the IAC disconnected, at least on my 86. I would have to say probably 500rpm for you. Someone please chime in. I am deployed in middle east and don't have my manual to help him out...

The base RPM is around 500 but thats with the original cam, the hotcam needs around 800 RPM at idle. I asked Bryan to set that in the tune he sent me but its not working. I thought the idle set screw was only used on earlier models to set the idle not on a 94.
For some reason the idle is at 800 if its in Park but not in Drive, if that helps at all.

There are two seperate PCM caibrations for park/neutral and drive.
I'm not even for sure that you can set the idle on a 94 with the TB set screw. But if you could, and had it idling at 800 rpms in drive. It would probably idle over 900 in park.
I dont know whats wrong then, Bryan from PCMforless said he did set it in the new tune he sent me. When I told him the idle was still at 500 he said to mess with the TB set screw.
So does this mean the idle was never set in the new tune I was sent? Can someone check it for me, I have the bin I can email out.

Now its at least 800 in Park but drops down to around 500-550 in drive
What would be causing it to drop back down to 500 in drive assuming the pcm is now set for 800 in drive?
Whats probally going on is that your IAC counts are maxed. This happens alot in jammed up throttle bodys or in aftermarket ones. The commanded idle is set in the computer but it requires enough in the throttle stop to put the IAC in range.

You shouldn't email Bryans bin around.
Its a stock throttle body and it was just cleaned a few weeks ago after I put in the hotcam. Also I replaced the IAC valve a few months ago so it shouldn't be sticking.
Whats the problem with emailing out the bin? No one can use it unless they have the same exact setup as me? Same cam, gears, rockers, engine,etc.. Im just trying to get help here so my car will work like it supposed to.

It's the automatic, stupid. In drive it loads it down. All automatics do this.
My 94 with 6 speed, therefore no load from TC, idled at 800rpm with no tuning change after installing the Hot Cam. That is the base setup for a 94 with PCM.
John at Woodbridge Autotech upped the idle to 950 and that is where it remains. Of course I can't have any transmission load when sitting at a light, can I? I have to be in neutral or have the clutch to the floor (disengaged).
Mailing out that tune is going to feed yet another flame war. Are you sure you want to go there?

It sounds like Alvin may be right. Your idle is set at 850 rpms park/neutral and 800 drive.
Alvin, don't worry. I won't use or foward this bin file, as soon as this situation is fixed. The file will be deleted.
It seems with the recent deception by one of our forum's tuners. The rest of the mail order tune users have been spooked.

So whats the point of changing the idle in the new tune if an automatic would make it go back down to 500 anyway? Am I supposed to leave my automatic in neutral at a light?
And whats the big deal about sending the tune to someone to check it? If you're having a problem with something you bought you never get a second opinion? Looks like you're the stupid one
I just think its disprespectful of bryans work.. Now, when theres no work done and you have a major fraud case about to hit the courts than thats a different story.

Why dont' you ask microsoft that. If you bought the tune from Bryan he would have helped you out. Did you think he didn't know what he was doing with a hotcam tune? I'm not getting irratable or mad but take a step back and look at it.

I did ask Bryan for help and he told me to adjust the throttlebody set screw. Im sure he knew what he was doing, its his job. I wanted someone to check the tune for me since other replies said the set screw wouldnt change the idle.
What I meant by the quote "It's the automatic, stupid" was a veiled reference to Bill Clinton's quote in the 1992 election. "It's the economy stupid".
Subtlety is lost in these forums, isn't it? I was not calling you stupid. OK?
Point is 800 rpm is the stock idle setting, and with the Hotcam that's not enough to have a smooth idle. I had mine raised to 950 to give more vacuum and smooth the idle.
I do have a 6 speed and therefore do not know what setting would be needed to get a smooth idle with an automatic in drive. OK?
I got my car dyno tuned twice to reach the point where I am satisfied. I would not do a tune by mail deal. Just what I would do and in fact did is go for a dyno session. If you are in the dyno with the tuner right there, you would both see the setting did not work. OK?

Sorry didnt recognize that quote, and I did not want to start a flame war by emailing out that bin. I had no idea people would be upset over that. 99% of the people on this forum are honest and would not have used it without paying for it.
I just want to know how to fix the problem, the bin has been checked and nothing is wrong with the tune. I wasn't expecting anything wrong with it either thats why I ordered it from pcmforless, they have a lot of happy customers. I was just checking all the bases.
Alvin said it might be the throttlebody, should I clean it again, order a new one? Is there a way to check it?
