EASE software owners/users
EASE uses RS232 to communicate with the CCM, et.al.
I called EASE and the girl tells me the "only cable that will work is the Bafo, and it's $50.00." WHAT! $50.00 for a lousy cable? No way. I suspect some competitive shopping will find the same cable from another vendor (I know that Tigerdirect used to sell Bafo products) for much less money.
Tigerdirect does have a USB/RS232 converter for $9.99 or so. I do not know if it works, and I didn't want to deal with mail order to find out.
I headed to Fry's today and bought a $14.99 USB/RS232 cable from Airlink101, www.airlink101.com (model number AC-USBS, the Fry's number is 4071282). This cable does the same as any other USB/RS232 converter, but at a lower price then what EASE is trying to peddle.
I found that the USB adaptor assigns the comm port as Comm 5, once the EASE software has been configured, it works like a champ.
I hope this saves just one person a chunk of change...
Another thought is to get a PCMCIA Card with a coupld of RS-232 ports on it, those should work as well.
had to resort to an old pII 450 Dell and use the serial port now all is good
I also hear the Radio Shack version works, but hadn't tried it.
