Default Antenna Replacement

Hi, I just bought a 1994 LT1 and the Antenna does not work, it is in the up position. After thinking about it I decided to replace the whole assembly. It looks hard to get to. Any advice or information on how to go about this project. Also I think I'm going to buy a service manual, anyone know of a good web site to get this?

YOU ARE ON THE BEST CORVETTE WEB SITE.
Yes definitly buy a manual (two parts). To buy a manual there are supporting vendors (listed on the side), parts for sale, or even ebay.
Do an advanced seach using antenna repair etc. as key words, Im sure you will find plenty of info and pics. from the shop manual. It is not that bad of a job w/learning curve, took me about three hours.

The short of it is remove: left tire, wheel tub.... lic.plate, left back up lamp assy, both left tail lamp assy...inside privacy shade covering and shade, pull rug back to expose relay near rear latch. That exposes everything you will need to do the job. Total time about 2 hrs taking your time. While your there, put in a bypass switch to keep your antenna down while you play your cass or c/d's. Since its all exposed, its a simple install.

Assuming the motor works, why don't you just try to replace the mast (about $15 and 15 minutes)?

Search the C4 TechTips portal. There's an article I wrote there that can help you...

What kind of switch are you talking about? A kit you bought or just a switch you ran up to your seat and wired in using a wiring diagram? Sound like a great idea. I wish the antenna went down during cd playing. Thanks.

I went down to the local parts store and picked up a switch and some 14ga wire. I cut the power wire from the radio just in front of the relay. Spliced in a leg to and from the switch (mounted under the dash), Works great and about $5. in parts.
