I have an '84 and am trying to install a set of performance pulleys. The problem is I cannot figure out how to get the pulley off the alternator. Any suggestions?

i think i see what your problem is.the nut sits so far in the pulley you cant put a wrench on it while useing a hex wrench in the center hole.you could grind a pair of flats on a socket, hold onto it with a adjustable wrench and put the hex wrench thru the center.
The best way to get that pulley off is with an impact.
I'll second this suggestion. On mine, it just took
a little 'burrp'. IIRC, I didn't even need to hold
the shaft still. Very easy.
Access to air and an impact may be an issue. If
not possible to change pulleys where you have
access, maybe remove the alternator and take it to
a friendly mechanic. Remember to disconnect the
battery ground before starting the alt removal.
i have no problem getting the nut and washer off with only a socket wrench. After I take those off I cannot get the pulley off, it seems stuck. Should I try and use a puller?
