Default Another Header Question

Why is it so damn difficult to make my mind up on headers, I was all set to save and spend close to $700.00 on headers and front Y (the Hooker super comps with EGR and matching Y), but now I see that Heddman makes a EGR happy header as well... so here are some questions to you fine people...

Are any of you guys running the Heddman Headers with the EGR gear (pt # 68447)on them, and if so what are your thoughts on them?

Summit has a set for $305. and I'm wondering if the Hooker Front Y ($169.)pipe will work if I buy those Headers.

So for $480 I can have both headers and a Y... or can I
Thanks as usual.

Usually, you pay for what you get. Headman's have a bad history of not lasting too long. Headers are not something you want to change every 2 years which is how long my Headmans lasted on my other car. I'd advise you to get a quality header, ie, EM, Hooker, TPIS that is coated. I currently have Hooker's Shorties that were coated by JetHot 3 years ago and they still look new. I have a set of EMs waiting to be installed and they look nice, but I'm waiting for other mods to arrive so I can do it all in one "down time" period.

If the Hedman's are ceramic coated the life of the headers won't be an issue. Especially for those that ask, 99.9% would be better off with the 1 5/8ths" tube size of the Hedmans rather than the 1 3/4" tube size if the Hookers. Rather than start WWIII in this thread, do a search and research the tube size choice.

Chances are the Hooker "Y" pipe won't fit the Hedman headers. Your local muffler shop can probably connect the headers to your exhaust for about the same or less.

RACE ON!!!

I bought the coated Headmans for my L98. The things I encountered are:

1) Headers hit the metal heat shields that are under the car. I had to remove and modify them so the headers would clear.
2) Had to fabricate two braces 1 ea for the alternator and air conditioning brackets. This had nothing to do with the fit of the headers. Its just things dimensionally changed and the braces wouldn't bolt to the engine anymore as configured.
3) A couple of the spark plugs are hard to get at. Others say their Hookers, EM's etc. do not have this problem. I can't comment on that.
4) Air pump tubes that are welded on the headers did not allow a connection of the air pump hose without the hose touching the header.
5) EGR tube flange that was welded onto the header had one stripped out hole. Had to use a bolt with a nut on that one.

So far those are my only issues. The headers themselves look good and I expect them to perform. One reason I chose Headman was the 1 5/8" diameter. Whether the performance of the 1 3/4" is better/worse by a little either way didn't really matter to me. I just know that space is at a premium with these cars and bigger may not be better when it comes to clearances.
