THe cables are linked to the software. You can just build one.
he told me he called someone about the lt1edit cable- whoever it was he talked to told him it would run him about $200- thats why i was wanting to know if a diy cable was possible. sounds odd to me that a cable would cost that much- but like i said- i know nothing about the lt1 computers
to clarify, yes there is a dongle that is locked to the VIN of the car... however there is a cable that also connects t the dongle to the plug to the right side of the steering wheel under the dash....
i think i just need to head over to his house and acually see what in the world he is talking about. although he wasn't drunk- he did have some beer in him when he was telling me about his cable problem
i will report back when i see what exactly he has. thanks for the help thus far
What are some of you guys talking about?! It's been a little while since I bought LT1 Edit or a cable but the cable is not VIN encrypted to the car. LT1 Edit is car specific (VIN encrypted) unless you got the professional version ($$$) but the cable is generic ALDL version. The cable needed will depend on which year car you have (i.e. ODBC1 ODBC1 1/2 or ODBC2). I have a '94 Vette and I believe '94-'95 Vettes use the ALDL ODBC1 1/2 cable (not quite ODBC1 and not fully ODBC2).
If Andrew Mattei's still in business you can order a cable from him and I believe he has instructions on how to build one aswell. Of course it'll be much easier to just order one for <$100.
I agree That's what I was saying.. the cable is generic, there is dongle that is locked to the VIN once you enable the software... so cables are cable...
I use the Autotap cable ( generic)that goes fromthe ALDL to the little dongle then a 9 pin -9 pin form the dongle to the PC...
The obd2 cables are linked to the software and vin.
Wow, I feel bad now. Sorry I did not realize that ODB2 cables are locked to VIN and software?! Guess I have been out of the LT1 Tuning world for too long.
You never mentioned what year corvette you have.
