To All Whom Have Gone Before..

When you post a thought or question on the forum, you have to accept the fact that others will respond with their thoughts and ideas, some good, others not so good, some based on experience and others, just thoughts. A person can accept or reject, any and all, politely and without trying to lobotomize the other person. I enjoy perusing the forum and although some responses aren't completely useful, they cause me to start thinking in the direction of, what I believe to be, a correct solution.

Let's keep the forum friendly....PEACE.

If you disconnect the MAF and look inside, you will see the screen. When the MAF is in operation and you shut off your motor, the burn-off relay heats the "sensing wire" for about 5-8 seconds to burn off any impurities. The screen doesn't heat up.

(corrected my previous post- thanks to Morley)

in my 86 L-98 i just removed the rear screen, i figured if the front one dose even air flow it would also stop some thing the K&N didn't. and maybe the air flow after the rear screen would give my so called air foil a chance to do something. do the MAF's for L-98 heat up the screens too??

Don't wanna get in the middle of this fight. Just wanna know if I can get a screen from GM without buying a MAF. I damaged it. I'm trouble shooting a stumbling/bogging problem I've been having especially at elevations below 3,000'.

im sure u can find a used maf from any gm car and use the screen if theyre the same.

My .02.. I think its sad that people remove this screen and drive the car and expect to feel a difference. you're better off going to the toilet before you drive the car.

It doesn't heat the screen, it heats the platinum wire that is used for the measuring device.

You are correct. I was thinking "sensing wire" but typed "screen" in error. I corrected my previous post. Thanks for catching my error.. Cheers.

I could concur with your $0.02 (don't give yourself too much credit with $0.02) if someone came here and said there were any gains to made by removing the screen. But seeing as no one has, you’re just another tart insinuating an argument.

BTW, I did an airflow test through the 96 screen (you do know the difference right?) and there is an unbelievable amount of restriction. I'll keep it out and take my chances. Don't ask me to share since everyone is an expert in airflow here. Figure it out for yourself.

So now you're going after DieL? Nothing in his post comes close to "insinuating an argument". Your keyboard flexing impresses no one.

Lay off the steroids or whatever, and get back to loving life already.

P.S. PierEagle's advice in his first reply is sage. Suggest you heed it.

I posted my results, granted they where with a LS1 car.. They where still results.

I might get the LS1 car on the dyno again tomarrow if all goes well, I had a guy cancel on me so I should have the time now.

we are going to see how the new LS6 intake did, on top of that between pulls we will yank the screen.

I'm sorry did you say something? I thought you were "done with this train wreck"

I suggest everyone remove their MAF screen to gain 10HP. Happy now? go with it...

You can't - Have never experienced any SOP feeling from removing it. In fact, I keep my original, but "Descreened" MAF as my spare - and actually I'm using it right now since the last one I bought just quit. I'm more inclined to think that K & N air filters do more harm to MAFS than messing with the screen - but that's another (ahem) discussion.

Exactly how much of a gain does it take for you folks to "feel" it? Can you "feel" a 0.1 second gain in the quarter mile? When folks post that they did so and so and didn't "feel" a difference I think you should take that for what its worth.
