My Boss is having problems with the ASR and ABS lights coming on at the same time after about 15 minutes of driving. There are no dirvability symptoms and if the car is shut off and restarted they don't come back on for another 15 minutes. His mechanic plugged into the computer and couldn't make sense of the codes coming up.
The car is a 94 auto with ride control
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
It may be as simple as not quite enough brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. There is a fill line that is hard to see but the fluid level needs to be within a 1/4" of the opening to make sure the sensor doesn't detect low fluid under heavy braking.
What codes were found? A brake module needs to be plugged into a GM Tech II in order to reade ASR/ABS codes.
My 94 does the same thing, usaully after a big bump shakes the hell out of the car. Brake fluid was fine but I found a loose connection in the front right for the ABS sensor. If my lights come on, I shut the car off, wiggle the sensor, start it up...no lights.
A couple of weeks ago I had to brake hard and the ASR/ABS lights came on. The next time I started the engine the lights stayed off until I pushed down hard on the brake pedal. I found that I could drive around all day without the lights coming on as long as I didn't brake too hard. Last weekend the brake booster went out hard brake pedal? I'm not sure if there's a connection or not but I'm bleeding the brakes as soon as I replace the booster.
