I'm planning on getting a set of 4.10s for my 94 six speed soon. Right after the headers, cats and exhaust. From what I read on here you can't just change the drive gear on the trans to get the speedo to match, the computer has to be reprogrammed. Is that correct? Do I have to spend the money to buy the Hyper Tech programmer just for that or is there another way to do this? That seems like a lot of money to spend for one small program change.
I went to Tuner Cat's website. WAY too techy for me. Said you have to be very familiar with closed loop systems, talked about flash programming messing up the ECM if you have the wrong software on your computer, etc. While I know what those things are, I'm not familiar enough with them to take a chance. Too much hassle and opening the door for disaster it seems.
Besides, I don't have a lap top and my PC is a good fifty feet from the garage. Cable, if I could find one that long, would cost a fortune.
I think I'll just change the drive gear in the trans and maybe buy the Hyper Tech since people have said it's pretty easy to use and I'm only doing light mods to the car.
