Just a quick hopefully easy question. 86 with a 700R4. What controls the upper and lower shift points?
I had my trans rebuilt and now it is not shifting at the right points. Under full throttle it will not go into 2nd gear. At least not at a RPM I want to maintain. If I drive easy it will shift fine after second. It will hold first till about 2400 RPM. After second under light throttle it will go right into 4th no problem.
It will also not downshift properly. If I floor it on the freeway it used to go down into second gear. Currently it only goes into 3rd. This is at 70MPH with a 2.59 rear.
Poor car was down all summer because of this "friend" I had work on my car. I get it back before the snow.... wanting to get it on the road soon. Hope to get it out there once I get it painted.
The TV cable adjustment is NOT to be used to adjust the shift points or shift quality. The cable needs to be properly adjusted for the transmission to live. It is the governor that controls the shift points.

Ok so I think I need a governor adjustment Kit. The governor adjusts how far it will down shift too right? It does not go down enugh gears when you floor it. The kit is pretty cheap. Just wish I know what weights to put in it. Just trial and error I guess.
Now where to test the shift points in the city without getting in trouble.
If the trans shifted fine before the rebuild, and the same governor was used, it should shift at the same points. I would remove it, inspect it, dissassemble and clean it before modding it.
