My car, an 88, is about 99% track car with very minimal street driving. I would like to remove the charcoal cannister and all related polution devices. The Cats and air pump were removed some time ago.
The gas tank has a vent line that runs along the left side frame to the front of the car. I would like to simply vent the gas tank to the ground, maybe somewhere in the area of the left rear wheel.
Has anybody done this modification and is there any thing I am not seeing or any problems I will be creating? I don't see anything in my GM service manual that raises flags for me but there may be something I am overlooking.
Back in the old days we had vented gas caps. We also had more problems with water condensing in the fuel tank. And fuel vapor in the garage on a hot day.
I converted my 84 to a carb. I removed all of the smog, put a return style fuel pressure regulator, removed the charcoal canister and put a small filter over that return line. It is still in the front fenderwell. No problems with 6 months of weekend useage.
