Default Block Heater Blow-out... again!

Today I had my block heater spring a leak again. The first time was during a WOT acceleration from a stop. This blew the heater right out of the block. I replaced it with a new one from the dealer.

Today I slammed the accelerator, most of the way, merging on to the highway, and the block heater sprung a leak at the seal. I nursed it to a strip mall where I was able to determine that it was the block heater again. I tried to push it back in and tighten it, but it only made it worse - going from a trickle to a down pour. At this point I gave up and called the tow truck.

What I would like to know is if there is a better block heater or other thing I should do to prevent this from happening a third time? I don't drive car during the winter and it's stored in a garage so I don't really need the block heater.

So don't put another one in, have a brass freeze plug put in instead (with sealant).

Anyone wanna throw out ideas as to why I keep blowing these out? Why is the crankcase pressure getting so high? I'm going to have my rad cap tested, if it's not that could the water pump by-pass be failing?

Crankcase pressure??? Where is the block heater installed? Even with a bad radiator cap, I would expect the block heater to one of the LAST things to fail under excessive cooling system pressure. Since you don't use it, the easiest, cheapest, thing to do is eliminate it. Otherwise I would say the installation is suspect.

RACE ON!!!
