I am doing a head gasket job on my '88 and the runner/fuel rail thing seems like a chicken or egg - which came first deal. The stupid reverse bolt on the inside under the fuel pressure regulator. What is the correct installation order?
I will post pictures for those that are interrested - when I am finished
After the intake base is installed, torqued to spec, allowed to stand for >24hrs and then retorqued, the fuel rail and fuel lines go on next.
Then comes the runners and lower runner bolts. I use a magnetic wand to start the tough ones, like the inside one near the FPR. Then a ball driver can be used to run it in till snub, followed up by a Torx bit on an extension & swivel.
Start all bolts well by hand before putting a wrench to any of them and watch that the lower gaskets stay in proper position while installing all the bolts.
One thing to consider is replacing your Torx bolts with hex head bolts.
After having to drill a few of the Torx heads off after stripping, I went on line and replaced all the top end bolts.
Now I'm not cringing as I'm tightening. Top end on mine has been done 3 times. JAT
You aren't kidding. I went to coopperstate nut and bolt and got some allen head bolts. sure enough I found out why the Previous owner stripped the one that I had to drill out. What do the bolts look like that you used?
The ones I used are very similar but they use an allen key instead of a torx.
