Air Pump @ silencer

I have 1993 ruby 24,000 miles.
my air pump makes a high pitch sound everytime I start the car.Then stops when the pump cuts out after a few minuites.
I can get a new pump. But GM does discountued the silencer.

Mine does not make much noise at all, I wonder if your pump is going out or is dirty?

Is the air pump on a L98 the same as LT!

One of the LT1 guys will have to confirm, but I think you have an electric motor that drives yours.

The IAR pump on my 92 did exactly the same thing. It was driving me nuts so I replaced it this past spring. I would have liked to eliminate it but WI requires emissions testing and I knew I would need it to pass. Bottom line is, the pump was about $160 and I put it in myself in about 15-20 minutes. As I remember it involves either 3 or 4 bolts, loosening 2 hose clamps and unplugging an electrical connection- then reversing the process. The new one is silent.

Thanks for the help.
I took it out this evening and checked it out. It is a sealed unit much different than the L98. Your right it is very easy to take it out and put back. I guess I will have to order a new one.
