when your precats go, does it sound like someone threw marbles in your TC inspection plate. i used a stethoscope and it seems like the noise is coming from the passenger precat. it is unbelivable how load this noise is. for the heck of it i checked the TC cover out and the oil pressure is holding steady at 64psi and the idle is steady.
You got it right. Marbles. The steth should pinpoint it to precats. I had the exact same problem on the passenger side. I dropped the whole exhaust system and cut off the end to the flange so I could jab a screwdriver in it and break them up and clean it out. Then had a buddy weld it back up. Be sure and mark the cut so you can line it back up if you do the same. it took about 4 hrs to do it all.
yep, i went out and took the front y and cat off. the passenger side was bad, so i took care of both precats. someone else did the main. hmmm..... i wonder if i should replace the main? will i have enough backpressure? i have muffler elims on it.
Hmmm.. not to hijack the thread, but a question... on initial acceleration, just above idle to about 1500 while accelerating, my car has developed a slight rattle/vibration sound. It goes away around 1400 to 1500 RPM and is quiet at cruise. Is it possible that there are pieces of dead cat material vibrating around inside the precats during this period of acceleration?
i can't say without hearing it and using the steth. mine sounded like marbles at any rpm above idle. it was loud. and yesterday it was fine, today it was bad.
