Default Rear Spring Codes? help with de-coding

They used a 3 letter code on the rear springs for differnt spring rates, it is stamped near one end on the side facing the pavement.

In 1984, they had two available, the FE1, and the Z51

Which one is coded with "BMF" ???

BMF = base
BMH = HD, which I think would be the Z51

The 1984 Corvette was available with 2 different rear springs. The standard equipment spring was coded, "BMF" and carried part number, 14045785. The "heavy duty" suspension was RPO "FE7". The FE7 suspension was a component of the Z51 handling package. The FE7 rear spring had code, "BMH" and carried part number 14045786.

I'm not sure where that info came from. My 1984 Corvette Specifications Manual shows a little differently. The spring rate for the standard equipment rear spring is listed at 75.5 N/mm (Newtons per millimeter) or 431.0 lb/in. (pounds per inch). The FE7 spring is rated at, 91.8 N/mm or 525.0 lb/in. I also show the effective spring rate at the wheel, for anyone interested.

Default How do you find this information?

Thanks for the replies, my 1st question has been answered!

Where would one find this information? I am aware of Hib Halversons chart elsewhere on the internet, BUT, if you are just looking at a spring, with a code and date of manufacture sticker, how do you know the spring rate?

NEXT QUESTION: Front Spring from a 1989, letter code stamped on it is "FHC" What is the spring rate? I do not know if it is from a FE1 car or an FE7 car

To get the part number, I went to my Corvette Parts Book. As I posted, I got the spring rates from my "1984 Corvette Specifications Manual"

1988-89, Y67 (convertible) with (for 1989) FE1, soft ride suspension, part number, 10048574. I don't have the spec manual for the 1988-1990's and therefore don't have the spring rates.

Look at the website TravisD made http://www.tubas.net/vette/index.html about halfway down the page in the section Vette Tech Items, he has scanned in the Parts Fiches for the springs.
