Default How to Improve Chassis Rigidity?

What's the best way to stiffen up the chassis on my 95 coupe?

I'm getting especially tired of the cowl shake and shudder on large bumps and creaking from the targa. I took a look at the R-D Racing website and saw a bunch of stuff, but don't really know what's good for what.

The car would be kept on the street (no track use), and I'm not keen on welding anything in. I'm not all that worried about esthestics either.

What would you recommend?

1. C4 Cross-bar
2. Camber brace
3. Cross frame
4. ST Frame support

Any or some combination thereof.

Does anybody know of R-D ships to Canada (specifically Greater Toronto Area)?

Thanks,

Joe

RD is a supporting vendor, you can find the guy at the top of this page and send him an IM or maybe an email about the shipping thing.

I would do the Camber Brace up front and then the cross-bar in the rear, that should firm it up quite a bit. I wouldnt do the rest unless you really want to get into racing, or at least wait until after you've done those two and see how you like it.

I have the Camber-brace and the Cross-frame. I would say I felt the biggest improvement from the Cross-frame. Others have reported good results with the ST frame support as well. Just remember that with the ST frame you lose the ability to store your top in the rear compartment.

It should answer your questions.
I have the crossframe and it helps some. Debating the Crosscamber to get it tighter but with my painted top and crossframe on it is pretty good right now. The clear tops do flex and crack over time.

I took a look at the thread, lots of observations. I'm liking the ST support and camber brace. The targa rarely comes off.

Did you find putting new shocks in making a difference? I think I still have the original Bilstiens on the FE1 suspension. I'm at 80k miles.

Actually a 4-6 point roll bar makes a huge difference in rigidity.

I'm running both, and couldn't be happier.

I installed the Camber Brace on my '85 last year. It eliminated the wandering on uneven pavement.

Probably lost a couple of inches in seat travel.

I get a smoother ride but it is a little early to make a good judgement yet. I read adjustable bilstiens get stiffer when the wear out.I definately had more bounce before but have not taken the top off for a comparison ride yet this weekend I will.

Not true, Dave has created some brackets that allow the top to be stored in the rear compartment with the S/T Frame.

I have the Camber Brace, Cross Frame and S/T. They all improve the handling. I had the Cross Bar before the S/T, it really helps too. If its just a street car, the Cross bar would probably be a better choice over the S/T, unless you want everyone to comment on how cool the S/T looks back there. Dave is great, can't go wrong with any of his products. Give him a call, tell him Gary sent ya.

Thanks for the comments guys, very helpful. I won't have to trade the C4 in to buy a C5.
