I Need to replace power antenna mast on 92 convertible..Motor works OK and mast runs up a bit but needs help to retract.
1. Is the nut that holds mast and contact spring into the mast tube under body grommet?
2. Any tips for removing this grommet with out damage to it?
3. Can I purchase this grommet from some supplier if needed?
4. I suspect plastic track is broken...do i need to remove the power motor unit and open the gear box up to remove old track or can I just install new and old will not foul up the works?
Thanks
HE
I never did the mast only replacement, I did whole ***. but I can tell you that the body gromet costs about 5.00 from C.C. mad, and is a good idea to replace if you do have to take it out. Mine was so dryrotted that it split it half when I went to replace it. Yes it was very easy to remove/install. Once antenna is out you can get either squeeze it from the bottom and push up or push it together from the top and pull up it has one ridge to keep it in and a key way for allignment.
Mine is a 90, and did not have a nut on antenna on top like the earlier models the two braket bolts holds it tight to the body gromet.
When I bought my mast for my 92 vert from Ecklers I purchased a new gromit for 5.00. Also when you take the old mast off compare it to the new mast mine old mast was 6 inches shorter that piece was broke off in the motor . then you have to drop motor down and take it apart to remove broken piece.
