With a little more inventiveness, you can install fairly good aftermarket speakers where the Bose junk sat - and it will sound better. Remember, any system sounds only as good as the speaker... and bose speakers suck.
I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer because I wanted a CD player. My bose system was in good shape. I used one of these adapters and was quite happy with the results. I not saying new speakers wouldn't have sounded better but the Pioneer offers much better tone adjustments making the speakers sound better.
i just installed a panasonic DVR 909 dvd deck in my '91, i used that adapter from crutchfield and now the speakers are rediculously quiet, if i crank the deck and listen really hard i can hear a little distorted music. anyone know what i did wrong?
I don't understand the fascination with keeping the Blose junk in these cars. Get rid of the crap head unit and get rid of the crap amps and speakers and replace them with a decent head/amp or just a head that has about 50watts per and 4 decent speakers.
Anyone who says that the stock system is as good as an aftermarket system obviously has never replaced the CRAP stock system with an aftermarket.
My stock head unit ended up in my garbage can. JUNK, JUNK, JUNK.
Get yourself any name brand head that plays MP3's, IE, JVC, Pioneer, Sony, Alpine. Same goes for the speakers, you won't be disapointed.
My setup is a MP3 Sony head, Clarion 4x55 amp, 6x9 Pioneers and 6.5" Sony fronts. It sounds about 1 trillion times better than the stock crap.
im not dis-agreeing that aftermarket sounds better, but I think the bose is quite impressive for a factory system WHEN FUNCTIONING properly, especially for the oldness of the system
i went a different route, i installed a new head unit, and kept the bose speakers, but pulled out the amplifiers and had my head unit power the bose speakers, it sounds pretty good
Works great. I'm using it with an Alpine 9855 with an Ipod adapter. I had the two front amps rebuilt by Dons and the system sounds as good as the day I bought the car. Clear, great bass, no issues period.
