Default Odometer failure?

I just finished redoing all the suspension on my '85, new wheel bearings, cleaned the diff, serviced the trans, removed and painted the oil pan, etc, etc, etc. The car is ready to drive!

So about a week ago I take the car out for the maiden voyage, just down the street and back. Put the car back on stands and double check everything! All seems well so back on the ground and back out for a little longer trip, about 4 miles. Brought it back, popped the hood and did a good visual inspection, checked underneath, etc. Double checked the torque on the lug nuts, etc. A couple of nights ago I took it out for a 15 mile ride. Temps were all good, she's running fine. On the last mile I notice the Odometer hasn't moved. The previous owner had the dash serviced so I figured maybe there is a connection problem or one of the wires got pinched during reassembly/installation and it's intermittent. I believe it worked when I purchased the car last April. So I pop the dash apart and pull the LCD out last night, remove the back cover and check the Odometer wires and connector. I cleaned the contact posts and put the connector back on. Wires were both good. Reinstalled the LCD and dash last night.

Took her out this morning and still no Odometer advancement. If I tap on the dash next to the odometer it rolls BACKWARDS a short distance (much less than a tenth of a mile) then stops. The connector to the LCD motherboard was keyed.

Do I have some weird polarity issue, a bad Odometer or ... ???

Thanks,

Ryan

Sounds almost like it's broken and hanging up, or the motor's dead.
