My CD-player does not work. I insert the CD and the player displays CD ERR and ejects the CD. First it would not play for a few minutes when I switched it on, a couple of month later it took 10-20 mins and now it won't play the CDs at all. I've cleaned the lens and tried other CDs but it just not want to play them.

Would a bad laser cause this? Has anyone tried replace the laser or is the only option to buy a new CD-player? Or is it some other problem?

Very common.

The belts usually get old and slip enough so the CD will not spin fast enough for the lazer to read right.

My 93 cost me $175.00 with shipping to be re-built.

Any "decent" auto audio repair shop can probably repair the CD drive mechanism. Try the yellow pages for a good local shop. A shop in my city that specializes in older car audio repairs quoted me $150 to replace/repair the CD drive unit in my system.
