Default Balancing a Centerforce Single Mass Flywheel...

When pulling out the stock DM flywheel, I noticed there were no weights installed on it (obviously not original). This explains the vibration at high RPM. I read the article that's been going around about balancing the LT1 DM flywheel, but the single mass centerforce flywheel does not have the holes for adding weights. Has anyone else had the centerforce SM flywheel balanced? If so, how did you do it?

I am not sure what you are going to do with this problem.

The DM is supposed to be balanced with the crank... this makes it rather hard to guess what the balance should be... follow?

I don't believe any of the single masses come with holes to add weight. You have to "match balance" them. This means that the old DM is spun balanced, and the inbalance is applied back to the SM flywheel, as mallory metal or some other added weight welded on.

I was trying to figure out a way to 'temporarily' add some weight to do trials as outlined in the balancing document that's been posted several times. After finding a weight that works, then permanently affix it as you suggested. I just don't know how to temporarily apply this weight to do the trials.

I donno what to suggest here... I wish I did.

It's hit and miss on how you would balance this.

I would call a good corvette shop and see what they say. I would be curious, too.

bump.

how many miles?

I am afraid your only option here is to rebalance the entire mass. You may also need to call some machine shops, too.

is there any chance you can reach the prior owner?

no, the prior owner was a retard and only put about 3,000 miles on the car. before that it belonged to someone in Florida. I am planning on doing the trials according to the balancing document with the 'stick-on' weights typically used for balancing wheels. Once I find the proper weight, i plan to have the correct weight welded in place. This is the only thing I can think of... Thanks for your help Bogus, I really appreciate it!

Bogus, are you aware of the flywheel balancing document I am talking about.... do you think the stick-ons will hold at 4200 rpm in order to do the trials????
