Default Starter Swap

Been a nightmare trying to get my vette on the road. Just a quick
question I want to get a new starter but I want a smaller higher
TORQ starter which one will work with a 85 stock.

I just put a hi torque starter on my sons 71. NAPA has one that will fit all 350 SBC. $170. If I remember right.

I think the best starter you can get for that car is a Autolite lifetime warranty rebuilt from Checker/CKS/whatever parts store in your area carry's Autolite. Tell the parts guy you have an '89 with a 6 speed. I don't think it will fit perfectly with your dust shield (the large metal cover around the bottom of the torque converter) but you can modify that easily to fit. I put one of these on my car a few years ago and they are very good about replacing it when it goes out very year or so. I have long tube headers which make the starter pretty hot so it's just a matter of time how long a starter will last. I've gone through a couple of those mini-hi-torque starters that only had 30 or 90 day warranties and they failed after the warranty. After you've changed the starter a couple times you should be able to do the job in about 15 minutes. That lifetime warranty is the key. And the '89 6-speed starter is a better design.
