Hi.
I have an 85 and had problems with the right headlight. The most common fault is the headlight motor. Inside the assembly there are some gears that may be worn. That is a very common fault. These gears you can buy from several suppliers. I had a combination between these gears and some dirty contacts inside the headlight motor assembly. I do not think it is any outside relays.
i dont think it is the gears cause you cant hear the motor working when you hit the switch. it has fallen down once before when i hit a bump goin down the road.
The relays, 3 of them are located on the front of the drivers inner fender panel.
I prefer to use a long pair of jumper wires and just run the 2 wires from one headlight motor to the other & try them.
If the same one fails in the same manner then its the motor but if the other one inherits the problem then its the relay.
The top relay works the bottom 2 relays.
If you dont have those 3 relays & only have one black box. then that means someone updated you to an 88 model. You can still test with jumper wires from motor to motor.
Check electric connections.
I've fixed it!!!!! well it was pretty stupid actually. I was reading in the manual how you could manually turn the headlights up or down by twisting the *** on the bottom of the motor. well clear enough the *** was just a little too tight, so i loosend it up a little and prestooooo. thanks for your help though guys.
