Default Nitrous Kit for LT1? Any suggestions?

I am interested in installing a nitrous kit on my 92 LT1. I already have heads, cam, headers and 4.10 gears. Thinking maybe just a 100 shot on the stock shortblock.

What kits would you guys recommend?

And don't say a NOS dry system. A shop in Kentucky tried installing on of those on my car last year. Brand new kit, would not work. They removed the system and now I am looking for something else.

Also, where is good place to install the bottle(s)? I already have a subwoofer box in my hatch. Not much room left.

I have heard the bottle(s) can be installed in the spare tire compartment. As anyone done this?

I would like to have the kit installed as stealth as possible. Any suggestions?

try a search, try getting a NX wet kit, don't go over 100hp shot if you've got the stock short block or you'll be playing with fire, try the spare tire carrier for the bottle

Will the spare tire carrier hold a 15 lb bottle?

How about 2 x 10 lb?

Nope!
Barry Grant kit for the LT1.
100 to 175 shot.
I used one for years.
I also use the NX kit on an L98 for while.
It gets expensive if you want it away from the drivers compartment.
Yes you can put it in the spare tire carrier.

I think I might go with the nos 05151 because I can get a discount on it. its a wet kit. Wet or nothin!

you can custom fabricate a box to sit in the back. and have a remote bottle opener. ppl who dont own a vette wont know and you could always say its the AMP for the speakers....

Barry grant is good stuff. also there is detailed info on the site for installing his kits which is really kool!

You will need their purge kit for sure and a hobbs switch which is a low fuel pressure cutoff. This is bare minimum.

Without purge air is in line when you turn bottle on then you hit the spray and you get fuel into the intake but no nitrous for a second which can cause fuel to puddle up because of improper atomization. One stroke of a valve at spark and wet fuel says BOOM! The hobbs switch keeps the n2o kit from spraying if fuel pressure is low. Spray when lean and combustion chamber temps are You run the risk of saying goodbye to pistons.

An RPM window switch is also nice for safety but I get away without one.

A Walbro #20000169, 255lph fuel pump helps.

IMO a bottle heater is also a necessity. That kit is designed for 1000psi bottle pressure and you'll run rich without a heater. A full 10 lb bottle at 75 degrees only has about 6-800psi. Rich is a condition you can survive but the car wont run great. The only way you'll run good without a heater will be in the heat of summer.

Nitrous is a wonderful mod if you play it smart and stay safe. Dont skimp on the safety stuff.

4 AN is what my Barry grant l98 kit came with. You'll need the 30 psi hobbs. 5psi is for carbureted cars. I cant honestly remember what I paid for the purge kit. I bought alot of stuff at one time and it was back at Christmas 04. I bought it from jegs. If I find my reciept I'll let you know.

I bought my bottle heater kit from http://www.coldfusionnitrous.com that came with heater, a relay and switch that turns heater off when bottle pressure reaches 1100psi in case you forget, all for $109.

If you can swing it pick up a gauge for your bottle and if you plan on racing IHRA tracks and your bottle is in cab with you you'll need the safety pop off valve for bottle with burst discs with a blow down tube incase the pressure exceeds safe limits the disc bursts and the nitrous is expelled outside of car.

The Hobbs is part of that safety system yes, along with a low oil pressure switch and a divert solenoid for in the event a nitrous solenoid sticks open.

I dont have the whole system. With our vettes if the oil pressure runs low the fuel pump relay switches the fuel pump off, which in turn would instantly cause the hobbs switch to cut off nitrous so I didn't see the whole safety systen as necessary. I guess the divert solenoid would be a nice addition but I dont have it myself.
The 30 psi hobbs you need is here along with a system relay that makes for a better set up.

The kit you got wont include the relay. it comes with the basics to get started. Bottle, bottle holders, all nitrous and fuel lines needed, plate, and nitrous and fuel solenoids and mount and the WOT switch and bracket to mount it and an adapter to move the throttle linkage forward after you install the TB plate. Thats it. It's a good start but you need the things I've discussed to be complete.

You should get the relay and follow the instructions on the bottom for wiring.

Here's a thread of my install if you haven't seen it. It may give you some help and ideas.

I cannot remember exactly which NOS system it was (5174 maybe??). But it was a dry system made for the LT1 Corvette. It even had a activation switch custom made for the ashtray. The shop could not get the system to activate. It could have been their error. However, there was someone else on this Forum who had the same problem. Try doing a search. I have heard only good things about the NX wet system. I think I am going to try it next.
