Default Wiper Problem -- Need diagnosis

The windshield wipers on my 87 are haunted. The intermittent function works for about 20 minutes, then it quits. The normal speed works okay most of the time, but I've had that quit a couple of times too. If I try dropping from normal to intermittent, sometimes the wipers stop right where they are. They always return to bottom if I turn them off. I replaced the switch recently, because I was working on the doors anyway. I haven't touched the motor, or tested voltage yet.

I was just wondering if this behavior sounded like wiring, motor or park switch. Helms really doesn't discuss the park switch, but there was some mention of it here on the forum months ago.

I haven't had to check the Helms on this problem (thankfully) but let me say this. My experince has been that 95% of erratic problems with wipers are caused by a failing motor.

The wiper control needs to be sprayed lightly with electrical contact cleaner. The switch contacts and the variable resistor need cleaning!

It Could be just dirty contacts.. but...my experience is that problems with the delay, or not shutting off properly (as in they want to stay going, or won't Start going) are usually in the circuit card that is part of the Cover. Not the motor itself, not the park switch (which will come with a new motor anyhow). Not the switch.
