I blew my power steering pump on a road course and I can't figure out exactly what happened to it. It is blowing past the valve fitting that the pressure line screws into. Does anyone know what would cause that? I checked the O-ring and it looked fine.
I'm going to replace the pump but it just stumps me as to what happened, I could understand if the line was leaking at the end or if the front of the pump blew out but this just has me stumped.

The line cracked at the point where the jamb nut holds the line in. If you pull it out you will see it looking close at the flair in the line. I broke 4 Gm lines.
After breaking one at Pocono I ordered one from DRM. It is a braided line kit with steel fittings that go into the pump and rack. After putting it on I ran a autox with 9 runs and Khumo race tires. Not a drop out of the line.
DRM website Click on specials. The kit is $99, an new stock hose is around $70 from GM and will break again.

As an aside...If you're turning any serious rpms (6000+) during your track sessions, your pump is on borrowed time. I sent mine to Turn One and had it upgraded for $120 plus shipping. They install new guts and modify the fluid flow. You'll have slightly higher steering effort at low rpms but it's a price I'm willing to pay for pump life. Here's a link to their website: http://www.turnone-steering.com/ I called and spoke with Jeff when I was having mine done.
