Default Strange Display

Hi, guys. Need some help here. Got the LT4 out for a drive yesterday for the first time in months. I always have the engine temperature selected in the instrument display and the temperature went up to 194 degrees as usual. But then the number 194 was replaced with a blinking "545". In a few moments, 194 was back and the process then repeated itself throughout a 30-minute drive. On the trip back home, only the 194 was on the display, no blinking 545. Anybody have any thooughts on this? Thanks.

That's "SYS".
Usually that's your Vettes way of telling you it wants a new battery. Or if you have an aftermarket stereo that's messing things up.

SyS means the CCM has a code. You can pull it by shorting out some leads on the ADL, but I don't have a service manual for a 96 to intrepret them for you.

If you go to an Autozone, I believe they will read the codes for you for free.

I would strongly suspect the battery if it's been sitting for months.

Thanks, guys. I'll guess it is the battery. It was dead when I tried to start the car, and had to jump it. The first leg of the drive when I was seeing the sys code, the battery would have been charging. After 30 miles or so, and a restart, the display was back to normal. I appreciate the input.
