Default Jacking Point Question

Okay...this may be a rookie question...but..I want to get my '90 on jackstands at all four corners for oil / filter change, shifter install, diff. fluid change, etc...my Haynes manual only refers to using the stock scissor jack...what are the best jacking points (front and rear) when using a floor jack, and what is/are the best and safest placement(s) of jackstands? Thanks.

I use either the std jack or my floor jack under the designated jacking points.

Sorry I can't help you with jack stand points, but any solid frame location should be fine.

The Haynes manual makes a good booster seat for the kids. It never hurts to have a second perspective on a project either. Go to: www.helminc.com and order yourself a factory service manual.

In the meantime, just behind the front wheels and just ahead of the rear wheels, are good jack points. If you can access it, the diff is good for both sides of the rear, at once, and the front cross member in front.

RACE ON!!!

Easiest way is to drive up onramps then jack up the other end.

I use a jack a vette for the rear, unless I use the ramps on the rear.

Drive the front wheels up on 2 x 8's to give the jack clearance.

I place the jack stands at the front right where the sawybar mounts to teh frame at the rear I place the jack stands on teh frame near the gas tank.

On some occasions I'll have all four tires on ramps.

I would not order the manual from Helms online. Call them on the phone. You DO NOT want to end up with the "white cover" books like the ones I got when I ordered from them. I get more usable information from the Haines & Chilton manuals. When you order from Helms, insist on the "RED COVER" manuals

This is the first I've heard that Helms had two classes of manuals. I haven't bought from them for about 20 years. The cover of my manual is medium to light grey. Is what you got, "Service" or "Shop Manuals"? Mine says, "Shop Manual". I wonder what I'm missing.

RACE ON!!!

The white manuals are the preliminary manuals that contain only updates from the previous years.
The 2 volume red manuals are the current for the particular year you seek.
