Yesterday, my Holley 58mm started sticking at 4 to 5K rpm. Driving it was insane. Almost rear ended a few people trying to get it home.
It used to stick a bit at idle... at around 2K...and then gradually go down to 900 rpm. Now, after I shift, the throttle starts climbing on it's own and getting stuck at 4 to 5K!
First you need to determine what is making it stick... Throttle shaft bind, throttle blades binding, worn out return spring, or a bound up throttle cable.....
Ofthe throttle shaft is at fault you could try removing the TB and soaking it real good with Valvoline Syn Power TB cleaner (never seen anything eat carbon like it does...except a trich vapor tank).
If it is the blades...you'll need to rebuild it since it has shifted somehow internally. If it is the spring, call Holley and see if they sell them.
Hate to say this...But mine was sticking also last year...took her to the local Pep Boys for an A/C charge and check. Seen they offered the TB cleaning service. They cleaned, checked and gave me the part # for a worn spring. I was surprised in the difference.
I don't know about the Holley, but the BBKs are notorious for sticking. Just remove the TB and use some emory cloth on the plate edges, just enough to keep them from sticking. Mine has worked perfect ever since.
Thanks for the tips everyone. I found out what my problem was. A bolt had backed out and was chatching the throttle cable mechanism. I tightened the bolt and problem solved.
It still sticks at 2k at idle though. I am going to try the emory cloth and TB cleaner. Hopefully that will work.
