my 84 does'nt either. had a similar problem with temp running a bit high.
might want to check the fan sensor switch on the right hand manifold with a test light. I had a problem with mine sticking. replaced it and did a radiator flush and no worries since.
ok another question ... what temp is the fan supposed to come on at and should it stay on once the car is turned off???
It has been a long time since I had a stock fan switch, but I remember it as on at about 235°, and off around 225°. Maybe it was on at 225°, but I don't think so. Either way, the fan should shut off at about 10° cooler than the on temp, unless the A/C is on.
Factory fan switch goes on at 238 and goes off at 225. Also the fan shuts off with the ignition(key off). If you want it to run cooler most vette aftermarkets (Ecklers, Corvettes west) sell a lower temp switch that just replaces current and it just turns on sooner. Some of them as low as 180. There was only one cooling fan in the 84, but you can add an extra one in front of the A/C condensor and either put a variable temp control or add another relay and run it off of the standard temp switch. Not really a hard job.
Good luck,
Woody
The temp gets up to 250 or more at times but it's also 110 degrees outside and that's sitting in traffic... I've parked the car for now until I can go through it this weekend... Thanks for the help though...
I truthfully think there are several problems....
1. Clogged passages in the radiator itself.
2. High temp fan switch.
3. It's just freaking hot here.
4. Maybe trash in between the rad. and cond.
I gotta work on my house this weekend so maybe during the week I can straighten it out...
