There are no long tube headers that have a C.A.R.B. or an E.O number that makes them legal in CA. I just swap mine back to stock every two years.

There are no legal long tubes, but good flowing shorties will make it louder.

You can also punch the precats out, or sleeve them, this will increase noise and still pass smog.

Lastly, replace the main cat with a highflow carsound cat for $60, and run straight pipes after that. There are also side exhaust systems, but they're expensive.

That's the loudest 'legal' system that will pass smog every time. Loudest would be long tubes and h-pipe, no cat, and straight pipes to the doors or rear.

Or I guess you could run open headers with turndowns. You won't want it that loud, and you'll get pulled over by the first cop that sees you.

Right now my exhaust is 100% legal and pretty loud with no mufflers.

Kevin, who did you buy your Carsound cat from for $60.00?. That's a hell of a deal.

Ebay. There's 2 or 3 guys that have the same prices and move a bunch of em. I've bought one from 2 different sellers.

The 2.5" cats are $50 or maybe less. Universal fitment of course, welding required. Make sure you specify airtube if you want it (its unnecessary though)

The small amount of info I've found online is that they flow equal to the $150 randomtechs, and better than everything else. Maybe magnaflow should think of a catchier name and raise prices.

Longtube headers and 3" pipes would be pretty loud. You could stick some cats on it to make it look legal, but it will probably exceed CA noise levels.

I recently put TPIS headers on my 86' and had a muffler shop bend the Front Y-pipe (because it is NOT right out of the box ) and I ran it with open headers.

Holy Crap that was loud!

I would not want to drive a car for any length of time that was that loud.
