Hi, my 96 trans is overheating, the warning came up, I checked the temp it was at high, I forgot the actual reading though, I pulled over for a while to let it cool down then drove back home.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Anybody out there experienced similar problems?

What kind of shape is your fluid in? I'd check the lines and cooler for blockage and seriously consider a flush and upgrade to synthetic fluid as well as an additional cooler.
If your warning came up then you definately better have someone look at it. And change the fluid for sure. The warning is something like 300F+! I killed a tranny by getting into the 260s too many times.
Assuming nothing bad is going on, probably should consider an extra cooler. I went with a giant B&M stacked-plate cooler and now never see temps above 180F.
Ok heres a bit of info that could help you guys. The car hasnt been used for around 18 months+, and when in neutral or park the revs stay at about 1500rpm, when in gear they drop but not by much say about to 1200rpm or so. So whenever I take my foot off the brake the wants to launch itself uderstandably. Could this be another reason as to why its overheating the trans?
Im not 100% sure, but I think the trans temp is OK when driving, and climbs during traffic.
The car is completly stock, exterior, interior, mchanically etc.

The high idle is the problem. Get that fixed and change the tranny oil and filter...
The first place to start is to check the fluid. It its dark, smells burnt and hasn't been changed in 50000 miles, change the fluid and do a complete flush. Then check the temps after. Its a cheap first place to start.
Sorry to be rude guys, I never thanked everyone for their help, im just really worried!
Let me give you guys a bit of an insight into the high idle problem first.
When you first start the car and its cold, it idles fine, about 900-1000rpm I think, then give it a few mins, and it starts to warm up and the revs climb.
