Butt Ugly is an 88 L98, primarily track car with limited street driving. I am currently working on a 383 engine for it and would like to switch to an electric water pump. The AC is eliminated, but I would like to retain the heater and defroster. I have spoken to several of the electric water pump manufacturer's and none have a provision for the heater.
Anybody done this conversion to an L98 and retain the heater? Any help would be appreciated.
Get in touch with user 'Ralph', he has done it to his 85. As you said you need to have an extra fitting welded on for the heater. You also have to reroute the belt.
I have the heater hooked up with my electric water pump. I bought the cheap proflo summit brand and it works great. I had to grind a little off in spots for it to fit but it looks like a stock waterpump with a electric motor on it. Also had to add a pully to the set.
Meziere will drill the required hole, but it will cost you $$.
I have a meziere electric water pump and I was able to bypass this problem. My BE Cool radiator had a plugged hole that I am able to use for the heater connection.
Jim is correct. Mezeire added a bung to the 10-11 oclock position on the pump housing for me. However i had to buy the pump directly from them and then pay for the bung to be installed and they hit me up pretty hard on the $. I was working with Meziere to develop a pump with an idler pulley like the one they have for the F bodies, but they couldn't make it work. Like Jim said, you can tap into your radiator if there's an extra hole or get a tee fitting for the bottom radiator hose. I didn't have the extra hole in the radiator and didn't want to cut into the lower hose......so i had them add the bung. I fabbed my own pulley system to reroute the belt, but i'm still using the A/C. Ski_dwn_it on here rerouted his belt WITHOUT the A/C......so he might be able to give you some tips there.
