Default Radio Antenna Question

When you extend your antenna, how many sections does it have?

Mine appears to have four, but it seems that one of the sections is not extending...so only three sections are easily visible when extended. Clear as mud?

I believe only 3 sections actually move, the bottom most section you see down in there is "fixed" and doesn't move.

Hmmmmmm.........

onedef, does your third section appear to be "double wall thickness"?

My bottom-most section extends, but the section that is second from the top (section #3 of 4?) does not appear to be extending...even after thorough lubing with Outer's Gun Oil.

I'll give it another day or so for the oil to wick in.

The third section is definitely thicker. If it's not fully extending, I'd suspect part of the nylon mast has broken off into the unit and is keeping it from fully retracting and opening.

You can buy replacement masts from your Chevy dealer. More than likely, you'll have to remove the motor, open it up, take the broken bits of antenna ribbon out of there, then thread a new mast down the hole.

Okay you guys, the mast has four sections. I just broke that sticky third section free.
Why was I sure? The Helms said an extended antenna is 31.25" long and mine was about 6" short.
I had to grab that sticky third section with a set of new Vise-Grips and pull it out, then clean and lube it. Works like new now!

onedef92, you might want to look at yours again.....

You're right Larry. It is four sections. I miscounted. Good looking out!
