Default Roof Panel Rachet

My newly acquired 95 is missing the roof panel rachet. Cost on Corvette America is $29.95 + $5 shipping. Seems a bit pricey to me.

Will a socket I buy at a local auto parts store work just as well? Does anyone know the size of the socket?

Torx T4O.
As you now own a Vette , you will need a set of Torx head sockets to do any engine work.
However easiest immediate option is to buy the set of Torx heads that fold up in a handy carrier.Allen keys come in a similar arrangement
Usually 10 or so that run up to T40.You will need the smaller ones for all the interior screws.Good investment from any hareware , tool or auto supply for less than the cost of a one use only item as you state.

Some torx sockets will be too short in length for that spot.

You can also get one of those Torx screwdriver at sears or a lot of auto supply places.

Ecklers, MidAmerica, etc., have a reproduction Roof Panel Tool for $14.99, or thereabout.

You'll need a T40 2 inch bit to do this. Not easy to find. You can buy a power roof tool on Ebay for about that price. Looks like all it is is a driver with the bit. EBay Key word "roof tool"

a repro is great, but the oem tool that came with my vette is a snap-on, i do believe. at least the ratchet itself is.

NAPA carries a 2" T40 bit that fits a 1/4" hex socket. Part #775-5967. Get a cheap 1/4" drive ratchet and you have your tool. The 2" NAPA bit also fits in any decent electric screwdriver end, so you can use electricity instead of doing a lot of hand wrenching.
