I tried doing a search on this topic because I know I have read a thread about power windows, but I couldnt find the thread.
Ok, I just got my Corvette after 3 weeks of waiting for it to be shipped. It was worth the wait.
But the problem is the driver side window will not move. I remember reading a thread about this, but like I said I couldnt find it.
How do I check if it is only the switch or if it is the motor? Should I be hearing something? Should I check the fuses? Alittle guidance would be great.
Thanks
Try plugging the switch from your passanger window that does work to the driver's window. If it works you know it's the switch. If it does not work, you have eliminated the switch as possibly beeing bad. Then it must be the motor or the wiring.
A factory service manual certainly helps here. Checking for blown fuse is a good start. Checking for voltage at the window switches would be my second choice depending on if I could get to the window switch easily without tearing everything up. Again, the FSM is helpful removing parts to get to the switch. The window switch has a reversing funcion so unless you know what leads do what when the window goes up or goes down, it's just a guessing game. FSM again. Or you could try removing the door panel and start there. Before touching the connector or wiring on the motor, try the window switch up or down again. If it's still dead, try moving the connector and wiring as you try the switch again. You want to eliminate the connector or the wiring at the motor. If the window moves you may have a bad connection. If it still doesn't move, unplug the connector from the motor and check voltage on the connector terminals. The polarity reverses depending on whether the window is trying to going up or down. This will at least isolate the motor from the wiring. If you cut the wires and apply 12 volts to the motor you can test it going up or down by reversing the polarity. Obviously, you'll have to splice the wires back together. Bottom line is, isolate it before you start throwing money at it.

When my driver's regualtor broke I could hear the motor run but no motion; when my passenger's switch failed I could not hear the motor and, of course, no motion.
When you pull the DS switch and turn the ignition key On, jumper the Pnk wire to the Brn wire and the Dk Blu wire to the Blk wire to lower the window. If it moves the problem is in the switch. If not remove the inner door panel to see it the motor is running or not. Note, these wire colors are for an '88 Vette; this is a classic example of where a GM Shop Manual set from HELM pays off.
Assuming the other window operates ok, the PWR WDO circuit breaker is ok.

If it is the switch, NAPA and some of the other auto parts stores sell replacement door/window switches that look and work like the originals for about half of what the dealers want. That is what i used when one of my window switches stopped working. The replecement was EXACTLY the same as the OEM part down to the cast in numbers. You have to look in the auto trim and hardware sections.
