Hello I am brand new to this forum and this happens to be my very first post. My father and I recently purchased a 1984 Corvette. In about 2 weeks it comes back from paint. I am an avid Camaro owner and have had alot of experience with them. However I am completely lost when it comes to performance upgrades on this Corvette. So my first question would be does anyone have a good idea for a subtle, and reliable exhaust upgrade for this car? Any help would be awesome.
PS I saw a BBK Tri-Flow chrome setup that looked really sweet but alot of vette owners tell me Corsa is the way to go.
Hi X Fire,
Welcome to the community. The interesting aspect of this forum is that everyone has their own opinion which makes for some interesting reading and sometimes further analysis.
Budget determines choice in many instances. For exhaust there is 2 ways to go; first , go to a local Corvette show and talk to the owners and have a listen to their exhaust. The second is to scan some sites where Corvette owners rate their newly-purchased parts on a scale of 1 to 10. There is a couple out there and I found them to be invaluable.
I personally went with 2 Delta Flow ( made specifically for Corvette) Flowmaster mufflers from Summit a couple of years ago and I'm very happy with the sound and lack of resonance in the car. This winter I purchased a front Y pipe without the pre-cats and again I like the sound and performance improvement.
This forum can be addictive just like Corvettes ! Hope you and your father enjoy the hobby ! - Ken from Canada
Only one thing to say if you have an 84...Http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/cftest/ Ken and Mark are the ri

p.s. welcome to the world of crossfire injection
As you know there are two basic C4s, pre 92 and 92 -96. The C4 has one thing in common with each other, the wrong exhaust can produce resonance in the cockpit that will drive you insane. I'm not sure Corsa makes a system for your 84. If they do, you can't go wrong with a Corsa System. I have a B&B catback and really like it, but some don't like the resonance which mine doen't have (vert).
welcome, and congrats on your 84,I to am a vette &f-bod lover as far as exhaust,th is the exhaust I had on my 85,
2 1/2 front Y-pipe,highflow cat, walker rear Y-pipe w/crossover,and flowmaster mufflers. It was good enough along with just a chip,(crappy ADS one no less)for it to beat many a LT1 corvette. It sounded great, with absolutely no resonance.I originally had Dynomax mufflers, but liked the way the flowmasters sounded and "felt"when In switched them.try www.summitracing.com

The Corsa, if made for the 84, will most likely be much quieter than B&B. I believe B&B will give you a bigger HP boost than Corsa. I have the B&B setup on my 85, and depending on your speed and throttle position, it can be quite loud.
thanks guys. this has been alot of help thus far. what has suprised me most about this vette is the loss of hp through the drivetrain. the crossfire motor has a decent amount of torque, but i assume with a 20% DT loss we are looking at about 175rwhp. i am hoping to build an exhaust that we at least make up for that loss and keep close to 220 at the flywheel. this wasnt hard to do with my LS1 powered 02 SS, but it seems to be more and more of an issue as i look at it with this crossfire setup.
can it also be assumed that a TPI swap will cause a big drop in torque? is it worth it? or do you think i can pep it up with the stock topend. thanks again.
