I'm looking for tires for my 90 coupe, 275/40/17,,, I have GoodYear
GS-C 's on it now and love how wide they look,, when I look at other guys vettes with the same size tires but different brands,, they just don't look as wide... Why ? Any other brand tires "look" as wide ?
All manufacturers are different. Remember that the 275 is the section width and not the tread width. One guy's 275 may have a 10.5 inch tread and another may have an 11" tread. Some have those "rim savers"(like Firestone) which makes it look wider and I'm sure in some cases different air pressures will play a part in how they look.
I know what you mean. My BFG T/A's in 275x40x17 look like 315's when compared to my Bridgestone RE750's which are 275x40x17. The RE 750's meature out all 9 1/2" tread and 10.5" for the T/A's. Most of these size tires on Tirerack's web site do not list tread width and even the salesman did not know them. The new Firestone is narrow like the RE's. I believe the AS100 and the Toyo brand make wider tires per given size.
It would be great if some member can list tire width for the 275 in all brands.
I am looking to put a new set of slippers on my 89 garage queen this fall. I am going to go with Toyo tires. I just put a set of Toyos on the ole mini van and the ride and handling is fantastic.
