Cooling Fan problem 84
Quick question (I think). My cooling fan is not working when I turn on the A/C. It does work fine under normal operation with the fan switch in the head. The fan was working with the A/C last year. The wiring looks fine, does the ECM control the A/C fan operation?

84 ECM may have some control of the fan when the AC is on, but otherwise it doesnt.
Its probably something like a pressure switch not sending the correct signal.

I believe there is a pressure switch built into a/c compressor that is suppose to turn it on when you turn on a/c. Its a single wire near the top rear of compressor. Mine doesn't work either, i figure its not a big deal as long as fan works when it gets hot. It doesn't look like to me that you could fix problem without changing compressor. Air works good and car doesn't get hot so i've decided to leave well enough alone.

No ECM intervention in the fan operation of an '84. The primary side of the fan relay is grounded by either the temp switch in the right cylinder head, or the pressure switch, wired in parallel, on the compressor.
