Default Lowered the rear for free

I lowered the rear of my 96 on Saturday and didn't spend any money. If you remove the spring hanger bolt and rubber bushings, you see that the bushings have like 3 flat sections. Cut the first section off w/ knife (closest to metal washer) off both top and bottom and re-install. Also turned the nut over so cotter pin slots face up instead of down. I used a rolled pin and tie wire instead of cotter pin. Get extra nut to lock against original (I used loctite also).
Made my 96 level, within 1/8 of an inch measured to fender. Seems to drive good, especially on the onramps, and looks great. If anyone knows of a problem with this, please reply.

The main problem is you've got the load somewhat suspended from underneath the cotter pin hole now. These bolts have been known to break there. The best way is to get longer bolts and use lock nuts or double nut and don't have holes at all.

Having the car level causes problems with the high speed aerodynamics. If you have a full tank of gas and it is level then it is probably OK.

Default Response to Corvette Kid NC

Good point about being below the hole being weak. Thanks for the input. I am going to order the lowering kit. I wanted to try, but it's too cheap not to do right. By the advice of every post I read, I bought a set of shop manuals. Thanks to all for input and info

If you do a cost benefit risk analysis "You will figure out it's not worth the risk"

Lowering the rear will also increase your lift at speed. If you don't do 130+ I wouldn't worry about it. These cars are real stable up to there.
