Squeaking from R front suspension area while driving
My car has been making a squeaking sound for a little while from the front right suspension area. I could hear it at low speed's, but then I thought it stopped once the car got moving faster, but it appears the cars noise was draining it out. My friend was driving next to me last night and he said is was squeaking quite loud. His thoughts were that it might be a cracked or worn bushing in the suspension. Car is 96 z51 lt1 with 90k. Anyone experience this or have and ideas. The squeak seems to stop when I apply the brakes.
Thanks
Check your caliper wiggle it if it moves replace your anti rattle springs.I had a similar noise that went away when you apply the brakes and that was the source. If the caliper is tight it might be the pads.
Check the sway bar inner bushings. A little WD-40 & a quick drive with your friend next to you again will tell. Then you will have to do something more perm. as WD goes away quickly.
I've got a similar problem and im 100% sure its the brakes...someone want to tell me where the anti rattle springs are? And tell me where to get new ones?
The majority of the time, a dull squeak or groan from the front end is one of two things (or both); Sway bar bushings that are worn out and metal to metal, or monospring pads that are worn out.
For sure pull the wheel and do a thorough inspection of the whole assembly. If you look in the FSM the clips are call bias springs but Advance calls them anti rattle springs or clips but you should be able to tell just by wiggling the caliper. It should not move. When you install new brakes the retainer rod, clip and springs should be replaced if any of them are worn. If it is brakes the front ones are simple to deal with. If the caliper is tight better start looking at bushings or mabey pads. There are other sealants for noisy pads too. You put it on the pad before install.
Good Luck
I had this problem and found out the the sway bar attachment on that side was actually broekn and that the bushings were fried as a result. Check it out, on my car it was pretty easy to replace the mounting hardware.
Had the same problem on the left side. Noise would stop when lightly pressing the brake pedal. Ended up being a rotor problem. I took off the caliper and spun the rotor and could see it wobbling when compaired to the caliper mounting bracket. Hope that helps.
