Do a search on the forum - there's a guy on here who buffed his up to almost better than new using increasingly fine grades of sandpaper and polishes, etc. - he posted pictures and it looks great. These things are plexiglass (acrylic) so they are buffable as evidenced by his success.
I agree, but dont plan on it lasting forever either. These tops are notoriuos for crazing, cracking and breaking. I had a trashed top on my 85, and got a nice solid fiberglass replacement. It may have its problems too, but I think it will last three times as long as an acrylic/transparent top.
I just bought a 95 coupe with the smoke tint targa top. On the outside, it looks kind of faded and dull - almost like it has a haze of wax over it.
Is there a way to bring these things back to look better, or should I start collecting cans on the side of the road to pay for a new one from Melrose?
Try Novus Plastic Polishes. There are three grades, 2 and 3 are scratch removers and 1 is plastic polish with no abrasive. I use #1 exclusively on my paint. Looks great. Cuts down washing about 50 percent.
