I was trying to jump my 93 and now nothing happens when I turn the key to try to start it (no starter). The digital display is not working either, but the gauges and other displays seem to be OK. Is there anyway I can tell if and what the extent of the damage is to the ECM and digital display? Will the digital display work if the ECM is fried?
The display is controlled by the CCM under the dash. The ECM is under the hood just above the battery and controls the engine.
Sounds like you may have tripped your security system. This seems to be a common problem these days. Have you tried several times with the same results?
I know for a fact that when you try to start the car with a wrong combination key or anything that will upset the security from the car, it will not allow the car to be started for 7 to 10 minutes.
I lost my keys and worked with a locksmith to create a new one and then figure out what was the resistance of the key. Everytime we made a mistake the car would not engage the starter.
The security system detects this as an intrusion and will lock with a solenoid the starter. It will enable all systems after a period of about 7 minutes.
Maybe that is happening or the Clifford is affecting the factory security.
Don't know a lot about the security features of my 90 l98, but I do know that when I went to start mine after the winter season, and the battery was DEAD- it would not start until I had fully charged the batt.
