Hey all

Looking for some tires for my 92. Has stock size BFG's on it now. I heard Falken Tires are just as good and alot cheaper. Any suggestions or other tires I should look at. Also was thinking of going one size up. Any drawbacks? Thanks for the feedback.

Go on tirerack.com and read reviews. BF Goodrich G-Force TA KDW got some great comments from other C4 Vette drivers, as well as C5'ers, and f-body people.

I recently bought Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval tires and even though they have less than 200 miles on them, they absolutely blow away the Goodyear GSC tires (non-runflat) that were on the car. It's been raining lately and I've found they grip really well in the rain also. I got the Firehawks installed, balanced, and tax included for $700 out the door. Go beat that somewhere.

I'd recommend staying with BFG's. They are a bit more on the costly side, but they are fantastic!!! Good tread life, the KDWS is a Z rated tire with a 40k tread life, they too stick like glue and are an excellent all weather tire. I also recommend Michelin, but again they are quite costly... but when you are ready to get real serious about a tire, Michelin will not treat you wrong. In my opinion, there is no tire finer!!!

I have the falkons on my 1987, had them over a year. They handle great and were $400.00 out the door. Good economic replacement tire in my opinion

I've got a set of Bridgestone F1's on mine, and I love 'em! My brother has a set of Kumho tires on his '02 Firebird WS6, and after driving it, I'd give those some high marks too, and from what I've seen< Kumho tires can be had at some pretty good prices.

It depends a lot on what you want to do with the car. If you want a high performance tire for some high speed driving, and good tread life, the wide oval is tough to beat. If you go to the track more often, and are looking for more bite than tire life, a softer compound tire might be what you want. An AVS sport or equivalent maybe. If you drag, maybe a drag radial is the answer. Simply stating "I need tires" isn't enough information. Everyone buy's tires either based on price, or they buy tires intended to enhance the way they drive the car. Decide if you are buying based on price, or if you want a certain benefit from the tires, then go from there.

Everyone has their own experiences with different brands of tires. For me Michelins have almost killed me on different occasions. Granted they weren't performance tires (all seasons) but when you see your life flash before your eyes because of tires it kind of scares you off a bit.

On price, appearance, and past performance of Firestones I bought the Wide Ovals and couldn’t be happier with the street manners. Drag strip performance leaves a bit to be desired but I fully expected that.

Eagle GSD's here. very sticky. awesome wet traction as well. plus, i just love the aggressive tread pattern.

For me, Michelin is #1 choice, BFG is #2 - but I'm biased. A buddy of mine bought Falken for his Mustang Cobra. So far he likes them. They appear to be a pretty good value. If I had to pay for tires I would probably try them.

Neat and AllLT4 have good points, and so do the other posters. I've had similar issues with Michelin, but they sell so well that it must be me. And they came with my used, LT4--so for now, they stay.

When I go to replace them, it'll be a hard choice just because of what I've read on this thread and others. I know all the majors from owning them but have shied away from Falken and Kumho---it looks like there's no reason NOT to buy them and they are now pretty good choices, too.

Good luck. Tell us how it turns out!

Anybody tried the Toyo Proxes? I've got them on another car, and as soon as my Firehawks (which came on the car) lose enought tread, thats the direction I'm going.

I have Kuhmos on my car. I love them and they were a great price. I also have them on my Lexus as well. The neat thing about the Kuhmos is that they have a little lip on them to help protect your rim.
