I have a 93 with the hotcam, LT headers, ported heads, 4.09 gears and a Yank 3000 converter. I purchased the converter about 3 years ago on a group purchase. When trying to launch, I could not bring the engine speed up above 1800-1900 rpms without breaking the tires loose, (holding the brakes of course)
Well I just had the transmission rebuilt so I sent the converter back in to have it freshened up and now I cant get above 1400 rpms. I swear it feels like a stock converter. I was trying to get some opinions on this. I dont expect to be able to bring it up to 3000 with the brakes on but 1400?
Oh and by the way this is the SS? version. The one that has 6 mounting tabs on it with a billet cover.
You're right - something doesn't make sense. I have a 2600 stall convertor, and I can hold the car at 2200 RPM with the brakes. One possibility - your brakes are not working correctly. There is no direct correlation between the stall speed and the max RPM you can hold - that's also a function of brake strength. I'd check out the brakes, too.
Send it back and have it loosened up. It is toooooo tight.
Call their tech support & try to get a name - explain situation and hopefully get it resolved.
The 4000 I had would push through 4 wheel line lock at 1800rpm.
Sent back and redid to 4400 - now 2200 is the magic number - where I cannot hold.
Im going to the track wednesday evening. I just know that with a stock converter it would lock under brakes at about 1400 or so and this one is doing the same. I will be able to check 60ft times wed. and that will tell me a lot.
Before I could hold it to 1800 or so and not now. I dont believe it is anything with the brakes, it is pushing the front wheels. Oh well, may have more to report on thursday. Thanks for everyones input.
